News from the Wolf Den - February 4th, 2014

SAHS is hosting their very own Solo and Ensemble Contest for Middle School students this year.  The contest will be held at the new Band Hall/Athletic Complex on Thursday, February 6, beginning at 4:00 PM.  All Middle School students will perform their solo and/or ensemble for judges here at our school.  High School students will also be performing in front of judges in preparation for their attendance at Solo and Ensemble Contest this weekend.

Craig Haynie, Band Director, and Brittany Raley, Assistant Band Director, hope to grow this event in future years into an invitational contest for local schools.  This would bring an even more positive impression of our already fine school.  In addition, it would be an opportunity for our Band Boosters to potentially raise funds from other surrounding schools' band programs.  Good Luck to all the contestants!

The band boosters are currently selling "bling" rhinestone car decals.  Two designs are available:  the wolf head logo and an "SA" logo.  Be on the look out for these decals in the parking lots around school.  If you would like more information or would like to purchase one contact Mr. Haynie at the Band Hall or by e-mail, [email protected].  You may also contact Tammy Jacobs at [email protected] for additional information.

Mr. Aurelio Iglesias, SAHS Spanish teacher, continues to work very hard with our students and is proud to report real progress in the program.  At this time, all students know how to write numbers with the correct Spanish spelling from 0 to 100 and they also know the days of the week and months of the year.  They are reviewing regular verbs in present, past and future tense and reinforcing their knowledge of definite and indefinite articles and the correct usage (e.g., singular or plural, masculine or feminine).  Mr. Iglesias is particularly proud that their Spanish pronunciations have significantly improved over time.

Juniors will be taking the ACT test in the SAHS cafeteria this Saturday, February 8.  Students must remember to bring their ticket as well as acceptable photo identification.  Students who arrive after 8:00 AM will not be permitted to test.  Parents who have questions may call Ms. Sharon Cartwright, Counselor, at the school.
