My Mission

As School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students.  I look forward to offering support to students, staff, families, and community members.

My goal is to create a positive and supportive environment conducive to learning and success.  Please know that I am dedicated in making every possible effort to make certain that all students receive as much personal assistance as possible to ensure that their years at San Augustine High School are productive and meaningful.

Mi objetivo es crear un entorno positivo y propicio para el aprendizaje y el éxito.  Quiero que sepan que estoy dedicada en hacer todo el esfuerzo posible para asegurarme que todos los estudiantes reciban la mayor atención como sea posible para asegurar que sus años en la Escuela Preparatoria San Augustine (San Augustine High School) sea productiva y significativa.

Lions Club Scholarship Opportunities

  1. A.     “Diabetic Awareness Essay”

If you would like to be considered for SAHS’s applicant for this contest you must submit the following to Ms. Cartwright on or before Monday, November 3rd:

  •  An essay not to exceed 1500 words on the following subject:  “Growing Pains-Diabetics and the Challenge of Young Adulthood.”  How can friends,  families, and co-workers help Type I and/or Type II diabetics as they face these challenges?  You must research both types of diabetes with a particular focus on symptoms, monitoring, and managing the disease, risks or serious complications and social and emotional issues.
  1. B.     “Outstanding Youth Award”

If you would like to be considered for SAHS’s applicant for this contest you must submit the following to Ms. Cartwright on or before Monday, November 3rd:

  •  A typed resume’.
  •  A typed essay of 750 words on the topic, “Volunteerism and Its Importance”—tell why you feel volunteerism is important in a young person’s life.

 C.      “Drug Awareness Speech”

If you would like to be considered for SAHS’s applicant for this contest you must submit the following to Ms. Cartwright on or before Monday, November 3rd:

  •  A typed speech which will last between 5 to 7 minutes on the following subject:  “The Socioeconomic Effects of Marijuana Decriminalization.”  Explain the positive and negative effects that have occurred in communities where marijuana has been decriminalized.  Make a case for or against allowing marijuana to be decriminalized in your community based on your findings.  You may discuss the medical, culture, legal and economic changes in communities where the laws have been changed in defense of your position.

VFW Voice of Democracy Contest

The Voice of Democracy Program is open to students in grades 9-12.  Specific information will be given out through students' English teachers. The deadline is November 1st. See your English teacher or drop by the Counseling Center.

VFW Patriot's Pen Contest

The Patriot's Pen Program is open to students in grades 6-8.  Specific information will be given out through students' English teachers. The deadline is November 1st. See your English teacher or drop by the Counseling Center.

ACT and SAT Test Dates and Registration Deadlines

I have posted a spreadsheet with the 2014-2015 ACT and SAT test dates and registration deadlines on my page. 

San Augustine High School will be a test center for the October ACT and the February ACT.

 

 

 

Tyler Junior College Surveying and Mapping Camp

Tyler Junior College will host a Surveying and Mapping Camp for high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year.  There is no charge for participation.  To register, go to www.tjc.edu/SurveyingCamp.  For more information contact Willace Johnson at wjob@tjc.edu.

 

 

Pilgrim's Pride Job Fair

Are you looking for a great opportunity with room for growth?  Pilgrim's in Nacogodches, Texas has the position for you.  There will be a job fair on Thursday, April 24th at the Log Cabin from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.  They will be taking applications for feed truck drivers and poultry plant productions.  Positions will pay $10.85 per hour. 

Summer Employment Opportunities

Camp Niwana in Woodville, Texas is now hiring graduating seniors for the summer camping season.  For more information and application forms, visit their website at www.CampNiwana.org.

 

Students between the ages of 17-21 who are interested in pre-summer employment or the Youth Program are encouraged to contact the Workforce Solutions Center in Center, Texas.  For more information call 936-598-2468.

SFA's Summer Pre-Med Camp

Juniors who are interested in a summer program designed  to introduce students to the requirements of a premedical program are encouraged to see Ms. Cartwright about SFA’s Summer Pre-Med Camp.

SFA's Pre-Law Experience Camp

Juniors and seniors who are interested in a summer program designed to introduce the opportunities of a legal career are encouraged to see Ms. Cartwright about SFA’s Pre-Law Experience Camp which will be held on the SFA campus June 8th through the 14th.  

Zonta Prom Boutique

Zonta Club of Longview will once again host their annual Prom Boutique this spring.  Qualified girls who will be attending their prom are invited to attend this event and receive a free prom dress and accessories.  Interested students should see Ms. Cartwright for more details.

Jarvis Christian College High School Day

On Friday, March 21, 2014, seniors who are interested in attending Jarvis Christian College are encouraged to attend this campus event.  For more information, see Ms. Cartwright or call 903-730-4890 ext. 2202.

University of Texas Recruiter Visit for Juniors

Justin Barington, a recruiter from the University of Texas at Austin, will be on campus to visit with juniors on Friday, February 14th at 1:00 p.m. This recruiting visit will be held in the library.  Parents are invited to attend.

FAFSA Workshop
