My Mission

As School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students.  I look forward to offering support to students, staff, families, and community members.

My goal is to create a positive and supportive environment conducive to learning and success.  Please know that I am dedicated in making every possible effort to make certain that all students receive as much personal assistance as possible to ensure that their years at San Augustine High School are productive and meaningful.

Attention Seniors: Nursing Scholarship Opportunity

Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Their website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates: + A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics + A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs.

Juniors and Seniors: FREE ACT Prep

SENIORS:  You already know if you have received a fee waiver or not.
JUNIORS:  You will soon be registering for the April test and will know if you qualify for a fee waiver.
ACT is offering its newly redesigned ACT Online Prep™ product, a value of $39.95, at no cost to students who qualify and register for a national ACT® test date with a fee waiver. ACT Online Prep is one of many tools ACT is proud to offer to help students prepare for the ACT. 

The new system will launch December 18. No additional steps are necessary for  eligible students to receive complimentary access.
  • For eligible students who registered for the February test, or any subsequent test, prior to December 18:
    • ACT Online Prep login information will be provided via email by December 31.
  • For eligible students registering for the ACT on and after December 18:
    • Online: ACT Online Prep will appear at no charge in their shopping cart.
    • By phone/mail: If students provided an email address, login information will be sent within two weeks after registration.

Attention Seniors: Texas Tech University Update

Seniors who plan to attend Texas Tech or are interested in Texas Tech please note the following: 

Scholarship Deadline is February 1st:
Students still have until February 1st to complete the general freshman scholarship application in order to qualify for all types of scholarships at Texas Tech. Students should apply

Alumni Scholarships
Every year, the Texas Tech Alumni Association awards hundreds of scholarships funded by alumni contributions. These scholarships are awarded to deserving incoming freshmen and transfer students. TTAA scholarships are awarded based on a variety of factors including ethnicity, academic merit and financial need. The 2016 scholarship application opened on January 1, 2016.

Clark Scholars Program for Academically Talented Students:
The Clark Scholar Program is an intensive seven week summer research program for highly qualified high school juniors and seniors. The application to participate in this program is now open and the deadline to apply and submit supporting documentation is February 12. Students can find out more here

Connect Tech & Raider Roadshow!
Admitted students will soon be able to visit campus for an event held just for them - Connect Tech! They can learn more about their major and everything Tech has to offer. Texas Tech will also be traveling around Texas hosting Raider Roadshows for students to learn more about the University and attend a special reception for admitted students.

Grades 9-12 Paying for College

Seniors: SFA Smith-Hutson Scholarship

Just a reminder.....the deadline for the Smith-Hutson at SFA will be February 26, 2016.
Please make certain that I have time to review your application well before the deadline.

Seniors: Scholarship Opportunity

The Texas Telephone Association Foundation will award six, four-year scholarships, in the amount of $1500 per year to students entering college for the 2016-17 school year.  Special consideration will be given to students who will be pursuing a college degree in the following areas:  math, business, education, technology, engineering, and computer science, etc.

CNA Class for Juniors and Seniors

If you are interested in the applying for the CNA class which will be offered second semester there will be an informational meeting for both students and parents on Monday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. in the library.  Discussion will include course expectations, costs associated with taking the course, and other important information.  A parent or guardian must attend in order for students to be considered for admission into the class.

Seniors: December ACT Deadline November 20th

Seniors who wish to take the December 20th ACT must register no later than Friday, November 20th.

Seniors: Area Go-Texan Application is now open!!

The Area Go Texan Scholarship application is now available.  Seniors who meet the following criteria will be able to apply:
1)  Be a US citizen.
2)  Be a Texas resident.
3)  Attend a school in San Augustine County.  (SAHS or Broaddus HS)
4)  Be a graduating senior.
5)  Score at least a total of 950 on the critical reading and math portions of the SAT (can be combined from different administrations) or a 19 on the ACT.
6)  Be ranked in the top 1/3 of the graduating class.
7)  Have made formal application to enroll in a college or university.

Seniors: NFIE Young Entrepreneur Award

Are you a young entrepreneur?  Do you know a young entrepreneur?  Graduating high school seniors who operate their own small businesses are eligible to receive a 2016 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award from the NFIE Young Entrepreneur Foundation.

Juniors: 2016 Subiendo Academy Application Now Open

Subiendo is an intensive five day leadership academy created at The University of Texas at Austin to prepare the next generation of leaders to address critical issues facing Texas.  Current high school juniors who will be seniors in the fall of 2016 should apply.  Subiendo is a competitive program and is open to all students in Texas.  Students who are potentially first generation college students, or who overcome adversity, are strongly encouraged to apply.  Applications are evaluated on such factors as academic achievement, community involvement and leadership, essay questions, and teacher recommendation.
