SAISD - January Students of the Month

Elementary School:

The Pre-K Student of the Month for January is Omar Morales Hernandez. Omar was selected for this honor because he is always excited to learn. He likes to practice writing his letters and knows most of them, as well as their sounds and he is well on his way to reading. He also plays well with others and is a friend to everyone. What Omar likes most about school is eating lunch with his friends. Omar would like to be a Policeman when he grows up!  Omar is the son of Cristina Hernandez and Omar Morales. His teachers are Miss LaErica Pickens and Ms. Heather Hurst.

The Kindergarten Student of the Month for January is JaTerrius Jones Brooks. JaTerrius is the son of Bonnie Jones and Kenny Brooks. JaTerrius is always on his best behavior, and is willing to help others. His favorite color is red, and he wants to be a road worker when he grows up!  In his spare time, he likes to play with his brother and sister. His teachers are Mrs. Yolanda Pickett and Mrs. Margie Bryan.

The 1st grade Student of the Month for January is Nolan Seale.  Nolan is the son of Joseph and Josie Seale. Nolan is an awesome young man, who is always eager to help his teacher and classmates. His favorite part of school is learning, and being active.  He enjoys PE with Coach Boyette and Coach Renfro. He wants to be a WWE Wrestler when he gets older! Nolan is in Mrs. Jennifer Cecil’s homeroom.

The 2nd grade Student of the Month for January is Eric C. Polk, Jr. Eric was chosen because he has a big heart. He is always willing to help a student when needed, and he goes the extra mile. His favorite subject is Math, and he wants to be a Dr. when he grows up. After school he enjoys doing homework and he does a lot of extra credit work. Eric would like for you all to know that most of all, he is a good person. His teacher, Mrs. Maureen Carlton, agrees. Eric is the son of VaShonda Ruth and Eric C Polk, Sr.

The 4th grade Student of the Month for January is JaTavian Baxter. JaTavian is a sweet student, and he has really good manners. He is a hard worker and has come very far this year. His favorite subject is Math. JaTavian is the son of Rhonda Bratchett.

The 4th grade Student of the Month for January is Jesus Gervacio-Palacios. Jesus is a great kid, he is well mannered and always behaves himself, and he never gets into trouble. He likes to play soccer in his spare time or play his Nintendo Switch. His favorite subject in school is Social Studies. I asked Jesus what he wanted to be when he grew up, but he said he wasn’t really sure. Jesus is the son of Griselda Palacios and Francisco Gervacio and is in Mrs. Terra White’s homeroom.

The 5th grade Student of the Month is Camron Johnson. Camron’s favorite subject is reading and in his spare time he enjoys drawing. He says he would like to be a football player when he grows up. Camron is the son of LaTasha Johnson and he is in Mrs. Billie Jo Bellamy’s homeroom.

Middle School:

The 6th grade Student of the Month for January is Alejandro Covarrubias. Alejandro also known as, Alex, is a responsible student who comes to class every day ready to work, participate, and give his best effort. He is polite to everyone and does not say anything to others unless it is purposeful and kind. Alex’s favorite subject is science. He said his favorite teacher is Ms. Spencer because she is nice and fun and is also a good teacher. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer. When Alex graduates, he wants to go to college to be a veterinarian because he loves animals. Alejandro is the son of Marisela Cortes and Roberto Covarrubias. 

The 7th grade Student of the Month for January is Andrew Nash. Andrew is always organized and prepared to learn. He is polite and respectful and does his best to remain focused and take care of his assignments. He follows classroom procedures and contributes to discussions without being prompted. Andrews favorite subject is Texas History and his favorite teacher is Coach Cotten because he is funny. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and fishing. After graduating high school Andrew plans to attend college at TCU. Andrew is the son of Tiffany and Dion Nash.

 

The 8th grade Student of the Month for January is Jonathan Rivera. Jonathan is always prepared, motivated, and eager to learn. He is also a very respectful young man. His favorite subjects are math and science. His hobbies are playing sports and outdoor activities. He participates in football and track. Jonathan's plans after graduation are to become a welder. Jonathan is the son of Vajayra and Agenar Rivera.

High School:

The 9th grade Student of the Month for January is Ja’Mya Polk.  Ja'Mya is held in high regard among her teachers due to the way she carries herself. She gives 100% in her classes and extracurricular activities, exhibits personal accountability, and shows respect to her teachers and classmates.  Ja'Mya is involved in Student Council, Interact Club, and Athletics. She plays Volleyball, Basketball, and runs track. Volleyball is her favorite sport to play. Ja'Mya's favorite subject is Art because she likes to draw. It calms her down and helps her focus. When she's not at school, she enjoys spending time with her family. After high school, Ja'Mya plans to attend college at either LSU or Panola to study nursing. She chose this career path because she likes to care for others.  Ja’Mya is the daughter of Jessica Davis.

The 10th grade Student of the Month is Dayreiona Isaac. Dayreiona is a wonderful and awesome sophomore. Dayreiona’s teachers know that she is a serious and committed student who always strives to do her very best in each of her classes. Her success shows on her report card also, because she has been able to maintain all A's in all of her classes.  Dayreiona’s favorite subject in school is math. She excels especially well in her BIM (business) classes and has been training to compete in UIL Academics in Computer Applications. She is proud that she qualified this year for Ms. Pohly's college-level microcomputing course through Angelina College. Outside of the classroom, Yana enjoys listening to music and playing sports. After graduation from high school, she hopes to study business courses in college, learn to be an entrepreneur, and possibly manage her own hair style business and salon. Dayreiona is the daughter of Marcus Hafford.

 

The 11th grade Student of the Month for January is Michael Hightower. Michael meets every challenge that is thrown at him, head on with a smile on his face. Even when he is met with adversity, he does so with a positive attitude and it shows through in the end product of his work. He is always very respectful and is hungry to learn new things! Michael’s favorite subject is Algebra. His hobbies are any type of hunting and fishing. He is an active FFA member and also plays football and baseball. After graduation, Michael plans on becoming a Welder/Fabricator. Michael is the son of Tammy and Michael Hightower.

 

The 12th grade Student of the Month for January is Pedro Bahena. Pedro is an excellent student who is liked and admired by his classmates and teachers.  He excels academically and will also have 24 college hours when he graduates in May. Pedro is always thinking of others and treats everyone with kindness and respect. Pedro’s favorite subject is English. He enjoys helping out his parents when they need it, studying at times, and attending college. Pedro’s hobbies include playing with his dogs, working out, and watching Netflix. Pedro is currently in Student Council and Interact Club. After graduation, Pedro will be attending Stephen F. Austin University where he will major in nursing. Pedro is the son of Guadalupe Molina and Pedro Bahena.
