January Students of The Month!

SAN AUGUSTINE ISD - Students of the Month for January

Elementary:
The Pre-K Student of the Month for January is Jordan Cortes. Jordan is a great student and a role model for others. He follows the classroom rules and is a friend to all. He had learned all the uppercase and lowercase letters. He can count to 100 and recognizes numerals 0-11. He speaks both Spanish and English fluently. In his spare time he enjoys playing with his cars and riding his bicycle. Jordan is the son of Sandra Covarrubias and Jesus Cortes, and is in Mrs. Lisa Crouch's classroom.

Mrs. Jami Birdwell recommends Hadley Mathews for Kindergarten Student of the Month. Hadley is the 6 year old daughter of Luke and Terri Mathews. Hadley works very hard in class every day and is always willing to help other students, teachers or staff with whatever it is that they are needing. Whether it is a student struggling with reading a sentence, or spelling a word, or opening the door for someone else. She is a role model to other students by being respectful and kind to all people of all age, no matter what the circumstances. When Hadley grows up she would to go to Texas A&M University and be a veterinarian. She absolutely loves animals, especially sweet baby kittens. Mrs. Jami says, "I am honored to have Hadley in my class this year and I know she will be successful at whatever she chooses to do in the years to come."
The 1st grade Student of the Month for January is Liam Jarvis. Liam is a great student and a great reader, and his grades reflect that. His best subject is Math. He is kind and helpful to his teachers and his classmates. In his spare time, Liam enjoys riding his bike, playing with his dog, and playing board games. Liam is the son of Lee and Leighann Jarvis, and he is in Mrs. Melba Pahal’s homeroom.

The 2nd grade Student of the Month for January is TySydney Grover. Her homeroom teacher is Jenny Tanner. TySydney is an excellent student, she is always eager to get her work done and help her classmates. She was chosen by her classmates for this honor. When I asked them why TySydney should get Student of the Month they said, “She never gets in trouble, she always does her work, she plays with everyone, and she shares her crayons”. TySydney’s favorite subject in school is Math. When she grows up she would like to be a teacher. After school she enjoys eating and watching the TV. TySydney is the great granddaughter of Louise McCary and Ronald Sullivan.

The 3rd grade Student of the Month for January is Vi’Siscile Caraway. Vi’Siscile is a great student, she is always eager to learn, and is very respectful to everyone. Her favorite subject is Math. When she grows up she would like to be a teacher. In her spare time she enjoys playing basketball with her little dribbler teammates. Vi’Siscile is the daughter of Judy and Rayford Caraway.

The 4th grade Student of the Month for January is Maggie Miller. Maggie is an outstanding student, she is involved in GT, and has participated in several outside writing contests. Her favorite subject is Reading, and she loves to be trapped in the world of books where only the best stuff can happen. She also really loves her kitten Calypso. Maggie wants us to know that she feels it is really important that everyone is treated equally! Maggie is in Mrs. Becky Whitton's homeroom and she is the daughter of Jade and Ben Miller.

The 5th grade Student of the Month for January is Brittan Nance. Brittan is the 10 year old son of Casey and Kelly Nance. He has an older brother and an older sister. He has been a wolf pup throughout his entire education. This is his second year to be chosen as Student of the Month. He enjoys playing baseball and basketball. His favorite subject is Math. When he grows up he wants to be a sports announcer. He has represented our school in UIL in Chess and Art Smart. In Chess he won 5th Place. He is a very smart young man and we are confident that he will attain all his dreams. Brittan’s teachers are Ashley Burks, Jennifer Morton, and Davana Dixon.

High School:
The 6th grade Student of the Month for January is JoLon Garner. JoLon is the son of Alex and Ideria Garner. His favorite subject is English and he is involved in UIL. In his free time, JoLon enjoys playing with his dog, reading, and playing his X-Box. JoLon hopes to go to Harvard or Notre Dame to become a lawyer.

The 7th grade Student of the Month for January is Yessenia Valenciana. Yessenia is the daughter of Isabel Valenciana. Her favorite subject is Science. She is involved in band and UIL. Yessenia plans to go to college and work in technology.

The 8th grade Student of the Month for January is Virginia Blackwell. Ginny is the daughter of Jim and Chandra Blackwell. Her favorite subject is English/Language Arts. She is involved in UIL and robotics. Ginny plans to go to college and start a career.

The 9th grade Student of the Month for January is A'Shanti Watts. A'Shanti is the daughter of Bettina Watts and TJ Smith. Her favorite subjects are Reading and Biology and she is involved in Student Council. She is also a Praise Dancer and sings in the choir at Reed Chapel Baptist Church. A'Shanti plans to go to college at Prairie View.

The 10th grade Student of the Month for January is Yadira Rojas. Yadira is the daughter of Ana Gallego and Alfonso Rojas. Her favorite subject is English. She is a member of the band and the debate club. Yadira plans to go to college at Stephen F. Austin and work towards becoming a pediatrician.

The 11th grade Student of the Month for January is Gavin Murr. Gavin is the son of Marty and Lori Murr. His favorite subject is Forensic Science. He is involved in athletics and Student Council. Gavin plans to attend college and become a coach.

The 12th grade Student of the Month for January is Jasmonae' Mosby. Jasmonae' is the granddaughter of Sharon Crockett. Her favorite subject is Forensic Science. She is involved in Student Council, Ladies League, FCCLA and 4-H. Jasmonae' plans to attend Texas State Technical College in Marshall for two years to earn a degree in computer repair.
