Students of The Month For March!

San Augustine ISD - March Students of the Month

Elementary
The Pre-K Student of the Month for March is Isabel DeJesus Martinez. Mrs. Stripling said…. “I selected this student because she was very shy and did not verbalize much English when she came to our class. Her teacher verbalized even less Spanish. I wanted to convey to Isabel in some, “universal” way that I valued her and that she was important to me. This was accomplished through a mutual exchange of smiles and kind gestures! Isabel was shy but eager to learn even though she rarely said anything. She is such a good listener, and gets along with her classmates. Isabel’s favorite thing in class is painting. Her favorite nursery rhyme is Humpty Dumpty, and her favorite fairy tale is Little Red Riding Hood. Isabel has such an “eye” for detail when she does art work. Her art work is such that sometimes one would have a difficult time distinguishing her work from that of her teacher. I am very impressed with her artistic abilities! I can almost see her paintings hanging in palaces and presidential offices in all 196 countries! Isabel has a lot of “firsts” in our classroom. She was the first to spell and print her first name, learn all 26 uppercase letters and their sounds, and 10 shapes (including trapezoid, octagon, and hexagon)! She knows all her colors (11 total ), the parts of a book, the job of an illustrator and the author, and she can count to 14. She has learned the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. She can recognize the American flag, Texas flag, American Bald Eagle, Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Barack Obama. Isabel is able to distinguish her name from all the other students including another girl whose name is spelled the same as hers except it has two l’s (Isabell) instead of one. She knows the first letter of the other 16 students in her class and the sound they make. Whew!!!

I appreciate Isabel’s parents Paulino DeJesus and Laurita Martinez for the time and effort they are investing in their daughter’s education and character. I am very proud of Isabel, and I’m so thankful that she is in my class”!
