News from the Wolf Den - Oct. 10, 2013

The new SAISD website is up and running at www.saisd.us! Although there are still additional changes to come, the new site has lots of new features to offer. It provides quick access to the various calendars in the district (district, elementary, secondary and band, to name a few) and provides a connection to our new athletic sites at www.maxpreps.com.

Also available at the maxpreps site are football and volleyball schedules, rosters, state rankings and other related information. You can also access our twitter feed (twitter.com/saisdwolves), local weather, directions to school facilities and community links. There is even a link to this weekly article in case you miss it in the Tribune. Thanks go out to Mr. Tom Schmieder and Mr. Ryan Ham for all the hard work they have put into a great looking and well-functioning website!

The Wolves came close to pulling off a win against the Tenaha Tigers last week, losing by a score of 21 to 15. The Varsity travels to Grapeland this week, while the 8th grade and Junior Varsity teams host Grapeland at Wolfpack Stadium Thursday evening starting at 5:00.

The San Augustine Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is sponsoring another two movies this weekend. A matinee will start at 2:00 Saturday afternoon, October 12, and the evening feature will begin at 6:00, both at the SAHS Auditorium. These are age-appropriate movies, with the matinee appropriate for elementary-age children and the matinee for those 13 and older.

Ms. Sharon Cartwright, Counselor, wants to remind Sophomores and Juniors that the PSAT is being administered October 16. Seniors should be preparing for the October 26th ACT which will be given at SAHS; they should also be getting ready for the November 2nd SAT. Practice items are available online at www.actstudent.org for the ACT and at www.collegeboard.org for the SAT. Additionally, students can check out study guides from the SAHS library. There are even several free apps for both tests at the i-Tunes App Store! So ... no excuses - you can find helpful study materials!!

Ms. Cartwright also has the following activities coming up in October:

• October 17 - University of Texas recruiting visit, 3rd period
• October 22 - ASVAB pre-visit for seniors at 1:00
• October 26 - ACT test in SAHS cafeteria at 7:30 AM

November's list of scholarship is available in the counselor's office.

The Band continues its fundraiser for the next few weeks, selling school spirit clothing items! You can find hoodies, polo shirts, jerseys, blankets and even watches and iPhone covers! See any band member to place your order or call the school for more information. Take this opportunity to support the band and our school spirit!

Also in band news, Mr. Craig Haynie and Ms. Brittany Raley, Directors, announced two "Bandsmen of the Week" at halftime of the Wolves/Tenaha football game. Mr. Brock Johnson, Percussionist, and Miss Esmerelda Rodriguez, Trumpet, received the honor this week. Look for their picture and write-up elsewhere in this week's Tribune.
