Welcome to SAISD Special Education Department

My name is Janiece Kaylan Metcalf and I am 49 years old.  I am blessed to be married for 30 years to my husband, Johnny.  We have 2 wonderful children, a 23-year-old son, Garrett and a 17-year-old daughter, Kendyl.  I am a 1992 graduate of Zavalla High School and have been in education for 23 years.   I obtained my associate and my bachelor’s degrees from Lamar University, my Master’s in Educational Administration from University of Phoenix, and my Educational Diagnostician Certification from Sul Ross State University.   We still call the Zavalla area home, as we live in a log house with Sam Rayburn Reservoir as our backyard and the Angelina National Forest as our neighbor.   I have been an Educational Diagnostician for 9 years and was a Career and Technology teacher prior to that. I am honored to be the 2014 Gilbert I. “Buddy” Low Excellence in Education Award winner.   I am coming to San Augustine ISD from Lufkin ISD where I worked at the District Education Center as an Educational Diagnostician.  In addition to working at Lufkin ISD, I have also worked at Zavalla ISD, Huntington ISD and Warren ISD.  I am excited about getting back to the small school environment, which is where I feel most at home.  I have a passion for travel and adventure. If I am not traveling away from East Texas, you can find me sitting on the sideline watching my daughter play softball or as my husband's crappie fishing partner.

My name is Shannon Hamilton Bishop and I am the mother to two amazing young men, Gavin 24 and Brady 19. I have been married to Eric Bishop for 26 years and we reside near Toledo Bend Lake in Sabine County.  I graduated from Hemphill High School in 1992 and almost immediately became a paraprofessional at Hemphill Elementary.  My path to higher education started at the age of 30 at Stephen F. Austin State University where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in special education. After teaching for several years, I went back to college and obtained a master’s degree from Lamar University in special education. I taught high school life skills at Hemphill ISD for thirteen years. During my time teaching, I was also the varsity cheer coach as well as the One-Act-Play Director. In 2015, I was the recipient of the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence in Education. I have been with San Augustine ISD for the past two years serving as special programs support and ARD Facilitator.  I am starting my third year at SAISD and this year I will be the District Educational Diagnostician.  I am excited about the upcoming year here at San Augustine ISD.
